Butterfly Monitors

Yesterday, after 28 days we let our Butterflies go into the wild. As we were taking out the leaves and sticks from our Butterfly  habitat, we noticed little blue dots on one of the leaves.

Our Butterflies laid eggs! Some of them even have started the hatch into baby caterpillars!

After 21 days we have 4 Butterflies!

During the last two months of school, our class will be watching caterpillars turn into butterflies. Each day, two students will be given the job of "Butterfly Monitor". They will be in charge of making sure that our caterpillars have enough food and are out of the sunlight. Once the caterpillars have started to build their chrysalis, they will be moved into an enclosure so they can grow into Butterflies. Children will then be in charge of making sure the Butterflies have enough food and a happy habitat enclosure.

Pea Plants
Students will be bringing home their pea plants on Friday, May 13th. They will be in Jiffy pots which can be planted right into the ground.
We have been growing our plants in mini-greenhouses.
Pea seeds were soaked in water 2 hours before planting. We put our seeds into Ziplock bags with a wet cotton ball. Then we taped our bags to the windows, right in the path of the sunlight.

Our seeds started to grow within 3 days!!

Swat That Fly!!

It is a race against the clock and your opponent!
Who will swat the correct fly fist?!

We have been practicing our sight words in a fun and exciting way!

By swatting flies!

Students have participated in individual and group tournaments, with much cheering and encouragement for both teams and players!

Please start to practice the list of sight words that was sent home during the February interviews. The list of sight words will be emailed to everyone if you have misplaced your copy.

Squirt's Big Adventure!

Starting March 1st, students will be taking turns taking home Squirt the Sea Turtle for one night. We are encouraging students to include Squirt in their daily activities and allowing him to participate in family adventures. Students will be taking home Squirt, along with his backpack and his adventure book. In the adventure book you will find an information sheet, story behind Squirt and an example of what students should include in their personal page. When it is your child’s turn, you may read through the other student’s pages to see what types of adventures Squirt as gone on.
Ms. Laura and Ms. Mihaychuk are looking forward to hearing all about Squirt’s grand adventures.

On Tuesday February 23rd we saw The Cat in the Hat at the Living Arts Centre

Here are some ideas for asking your child about the performance

Pokémon Cards

Most of the boys in our class love to look at and play with their Pokémon Cards. However, they seem to be looking at them during class time. Please note that from now on Pokémon Cards will not be allowed in the classroom, including those for show and share.
